Our mission at First Security Bank & Trust is to be the guide to financial wellness for the communities we serve. Through a partnership with education technology company EverFi, First Security empowers students in North Central Iowa with the knowledge and skills they need to take control of their financial future.
The Common Cent$ program provides interactive digital financial education to elementary/middle/high schools throughout our footprint. Nearly 1,000 students have completed or are currently enrolled in the curriculum. In 2015, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) highlighted EverFi’s schools-based financial education programs in a new report on Advancing K-12 Financial Education: A Guide for Policymakers.
Vault – Understanding MoneyTM (Elementary/Middle School)
The online elementary/middle school course uses the latest in simulation and gaming technologies to bring complex financial concepts to life for today’s digital generation and introduce financial literacy skills early in a child’s cognitive development. The 2.5-hour curriculum aligns with state and national standards and includes topics such as saving, budgeting, responsibility and decision-making, credit and debt, careers, income, and charity.
EverFi – Financial EducationTM (High School)
The eight-hour web-based program uses the latest in new media technology to bring complex financial concepts to life for today’s digital generation. The platform uniquely tracks the progress and performance of every student and provides students who successfully complete the course with certification in financial literacy, a valuable mark of distinction on college applications and resumes.
