First Security Hosts Community Development Forum

First Security Hosts Community Development Forum

First Security Bank & Trust hosted their 5th Annual Community Development Forum on March 29, 2018 at the Muse Norris Center at North Iowa Area Community College.

First Security organizes the forum for leaders from North Iowa communities to listen to presentations, learn about resources that may benefit their community, and network with their peers. A group of students from Iowa Big North listened in and discussed their ideas as well. Speakers this year included Dr. Steve Schulz, President of NIACC, and Benjamin Winchester, Senior Research Fellow and Rural Sociologist for the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Schulz spoke about educational and business partnerships and Mr. Winchester spoke about economic, social, and demographic topics that are vital to rural America.

“We really enjoy hosting this event. It’s a great opportunity for local leaders to come together and learn not only from the presenters, who can provide information on programs they may not be aware of, but also from one another as they have the opportunity to speak with those who share common objectives,” remarked Kurt Herbrechtsmeyer, First Security’s President/CEO.
