"The IBA is pleased to welcome Kurt Herbrechtsmeyer as our 2017-2018 chair," said IBA President and CEO John Sorensen. "He is a thoughtful leader for his bank, community, and the banking industry. He is focused on helping Iowa banks better serve the financial needs of Iowans."
Herbrechtsmeyer has been with First Security for over 20 years and has served as CEO since 2007. He is the third from First Security to serve as Chairman of the IBA in its 130-year history, and the fourth from Charles City. His father, Bill Herbrechtsmeyer, led the bank for 20 years and served as Chairman of the IBA from 1994-1995. The Herbrechtsmeyer family has been with First Security Bank & Trust for over 90 years.
A 1982 graduate of Charles City High School, Herbrechtsmeyer attended the University of Iowa. After graduation, he worked for Arthur Andersen & Company in Chicago and New York before returning to Iowa.

He has served on the City Council of Charles City and has served as a board member of The Learning Center and the Charles City Excellence in Education Foundation. He was appointed the Iowa representative to the Bankers’ Advisory Board with the Graduate School of Banking in 2007 and the Government Relations Council Advisory Council of the American Bankers' Association in 2016.
