COVID-19: Banking from a Social Distance

Things are changing quickly when it comes to Coronavirus response, and we decided to give you updates from our end through a series of videos and website updates. Please subscribe to our Facebook and YouTube channels if you haven’t already, so you can be the first to know.

For this update, Monday, March 16th, we want to let you know of a couple changes you’ll notice in our lobbies. First, we apologize, but we will no longer be shaking hands when you visit us. Please don’t take offense, but we’re following best practices regarding reducing the possibility of exposure, and this is to protect our customers and staff.

We’re also introducing a four-times-per-day cleaning regimen at high-touch areas in our lobbies. Teller counters, waiting area furniture, and doorknobs will all be cleaned and re-cleaned throughout the day for your safety.

Right now, we’re not changing any of our lobby or business hours, but we do want you to know that you don’t have to come into the building to take care of your banking needs. In our previous video, we went through the options First Security customers have to bank while reducing person-to-person contact. Those include Video Banking through our Interactive Teller Machines, which are open beyond regular bankers’ hours so they’re actually MORE convenient – and only available locally at First Security. We’ll explore that further – and we’ll explore the features of online banking and our mobile app in future videos. For now, though, we’d like to focus on moving past cash.

As you know, cash is dirty – no bank can keep bills clean – and you should always wash your hands after handling cash. Debit cards are much cleaner – but not a perfect solution. That’s why we highly recommend you take the plunge and start using the Mobile Wallet options we offer. Here’s how. “Mobile Wallet” essentially means – paying with your phone. Instead of swiping a card, your phone connects to the terminal at the register and transfers funds from your First Security bank account to the store. We offer this service through Apple Pay®, Google Pay™, and Samsung Pay®*.

To get started, go to your app store and download one of those apps – the app store will tell you if it’ll work on your phone. Then, you’ll register your debit card information, verify your identity, and you’re ready for touch-free transactions. No more dirty cash. No more digging for a card – and no more touching the terminal. It takes just a few minutes to get started – and we can help.
