First Security Bank Announces Sisson Retirement

After 30 years in banking, Jeff Sisson is set to retire on June 12th, 2020.

Sisson was raised in Charles City and graduated from Charles City High School. As he grew, so did his love for his community.

Sisson began his banking career in 1985 when he was recruited by a local community bank.

He worked at that bank for 10 years. He also served as Mayor of Charles City from 1994 to 1995. In 1996, Sisson decided to try something totally new. He bought and managed the sports bar JP Sisson’s (currently The Pub on the Cedar) until he sold it in 2002.

Shortly after selling the business, Sisson was recruited by former President/CEO and current First Security Director Dick Herbrechtsmeyer. Over the last 18 years, Sisson has worked in leadership roles in the retail departments at First Security. His titles have included VP/Business Development, VP/Retail Service and Sales, and VP/Retail Lending.

“Banking is a great business because we have a lot of rational services that are free for people to use,” said Sisson.

When asked about some of the changes he’s experienced in the banking profession, Sisson said, “The technological advances have been nothing short of remarkable. Online banking, mobile banking, and our Video Banking at First Security are light years ahead of our old posting machines and Xerox copiers.”

Sisson’s favorite memories include working with customers. “I’ve met and gotten to know so many very well,” said Sisson. “I could start a list of favorites but the list would be never ending.”

“Jeff is such a people person—he’s a natural at developing relationships,” said Kurt Herbrechtsmeyer, President/CEO of First Security Bank. “He has been a great mentor to so many of our employees, and he’s a lot of fun to be around. We will miss his enthusiasm and constant flow of ideas.”

As always, Sisson will be busy outside of work. He is Chair of the North Cedar Aviation Authority, which operates the Northeast Iowa Regional Airport. He also chairs the Charles City Historic Preservation Commission and is President of the St. Charles Cemetery Association, which operates Riverside Cemetery. He is Past President of Charles City Community Revitalization and the Charles City Lions Club.

“Jeff is the kind of person who needs to have a sense of purpose,” Herbrechtsmeyer said. “Now he’ll have more time to devote to his passion for history in Charles City.”

Sisson is known for his love of local history. He’s been writing a book on the subject for more than 10 years, and now he looks forward to finishing it. Sisson also plans to become involved in Parkinson’s Disease awareness. Lastly, he is a proud new grandparent and looks forward to visiting his grandson.
