After a banking career spanning 21 years, Elaine Wilcox plans to retire.
Elaine has been an active member of the Hampton community for about 25 years. In fact, her involvement in the community is how she was introduced to her future coworker and supervisor, Donnis Borcherding. In the spring of 1998, Hampton State Bank had an opening in the Teller area, and Donnis, knowing Elaine through her volunteerism, suggested that she apply. Wilcox had spent the prior 16 years working in the home care industry, but decided to learn more about the opening at the bank. She went in to interview and was hired that very day.
Throughout the last 21 years, Wilcox has been a staple member of the frontline staff at Hampton State Bank, which became First Security Bank in December of 2015. At first, she rotated her time between the main office at 100 First Street NW and the drive-up location at 220 First Street NW. Over the last several years, however, Wilcox became the primary Teller at the drive-up location.
Despite full weeks of assisting bank customers, Elaine remained an avid volunteer in the Hampton community. Elaine served as Secretary of the Hampton Lions Club and as Treasurer for the American Legion Auxiliary for 17 years. She has also served as Board Member and Co-Treasurer for the Windsor Theatre. She is a member of the 1st Congregational Church and has served on their Board of Trustees for 4 years. She has also been very active in the community events that First Security sponsors.
“Elaine is one of those people that would do anything for anybody at anytime,” commented Donnis. “We will miss having her at the bank!”
Elaine is looking forward to spending more time traveling with her sister and old school friend. She also enjoys attending the movies at the Windsor Theatre.
First Security will hold a private celebration in her honor on February 28th. Elaine’s final day at the bank will be Friday, March 1st.
